About
-
Summary:
William Weston Stretton was the second child in a family which will have suffered much sadness as five of the eight children died at a very young age. The father of the Kidderminster surgeon, Samuel, he lived his life in the Leicester area, following his father’s trade as a currier but not enjoying it and leaving the business as soon as he could. Mary Annie Sloane recalls more aspects of the life of her grandfather here.

Bio:
His grandson, John Lionel recalls in his book that “I never heard of his doing any work, but he was a Justice of the Peace and he used to go down to the town every morning and often sat on the Bench”. Also that he “was a great Judge of port wine and kept the very finest vintages. He considered that when a bottle was opened it ought to be finished and not kept for another day. He used to dine at 2 o’clock, and he would sit all the afternoon and drink at the wine till the bottle was finished.”
